Standard CPR Child Care

Standard First Aid/CPR Child Care is a specialized programme for anyone responsible for children in daycares, early learning centres, schools, private childcare, and community programs. This two-day course provides complete training in first aid, CPR, injury prevention, and emergency response for infants and children. It follows current national guidelines and meets provincial and territorial childcare safety requirements. The goal is to help caregivers respond quickly, confidently, and safely during emergencies involving children or babies.

Standard CPR Child Care

Course Duration and Format

This course is delivered fully in person to ensure hands-on skill development.

  • Minimum 16 hours in-class

Blended learning is not available due to the extensive practical training required.

Recertification requires:

  • 8 hours in-class
    (Local regulations may differ, so participants should confirm recertification requirements.)

Instructor

All sessions are led by certified First Aid instructors experienced in standard first aid child care and standard CPR child care training.

Prerequisites

None.
Ideal for early childhood educators, childcare assistants, private caregivers, nannies, home-based providers, camp counsellors, and parents.

Completion Requirements

To earn certification, participants must:

  • Demonstrate all required skills
  • Achieve 75% or higher on written evaluation
  • Attend 100% of the course

These requirements ensure a consistent level of competence across all standard first aid child care participants.

This training prepares participants to manage both everyday injuries and serious emergencies in childcare settings.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive:

  • 3-year Standard Child Care First Aid certification

This certification is recognized across Canada and meets childcare safety requirements.
