

Becoming a Red Cross CPR Instructor involves five guided steps. Certified Instructor Trainers support you at each stage to help you build strong teaching skills.
Candidates must:
To help candidates prepare, VO2 offers a free 1-day SFA CPR/AED C Blended or Recertification course before the skills evaluation. This ensures learners feel ready and confident.
Completion Requirement:
You must pass the skills evaluation to move on to Step 2.
This phase teaches the principles of adult education and effective course facilitation.
Includes:
During this time, candidates practise micro-teaching segments under the supervision of an Instructor Trainer. This forms the instructional core of all CPR instructor courses.
Completion Requirements:
This step focuses specifically on First Aid and CPR program delivery. Candidates learn to teach Standard First Aid, Emergency First Aid, and CPR programs.

This step strengthens your ability to deliver CPR instructor courses confidently and competently.
The Teaching Experience includes:
Candidates teach part of a real class to demonstrate competency. Up to three attempts are allowed. This practical experience is a cornerstone of CPR instructor training, ensuring instructors are fully prepared before certification.
Completion Requirement:
Once all steps are complete, the Red Cross issues your CPR Instructor certification electronically.
Certification Details:
This final step marks your successful completion of one of Canada’s most respected CPR instructor courses. After certification, instructors can teach:
